Whether we are a leader on a large global team or a leader in a small organization, our ability to be trusted will impact our performance and relationships. There’s no way around it. If we can’t be trusted we will never be able to reach our potential and become influential.

MY DEFINITION OF SUCCESS
Success is identifying what we are fascinated with and then applying our gifts and strengths to make it happen. I believe that if we work hard at something and enjoy the process that is success. I don’t believe in labels or positions or titles. Success can be about growing in a career or a personal feat or helping someone reach their north star. The key is taking action and feeling empowered to propel ourselves in a particular direction.

One thing I know for sure about leaders- if they believe they know everything about their field or career and there isn’t anything else that can help them grow, they are sunk. When leaders allow their experience and expertise to prevent them from learning new concepts or processes, they will begin a downward spiral in their organizations and careers.

Being a strong leader involves being an effective relationship builder. To develop meaningful connections with others we need to have the ability to read our own emotions accurately as well as recognize the emotions in our team members, colleagues and networks. In fact, some of us are so unaware of how we may be feeling in a particular situation that it is very difficult to respond appropriately to actions or behaviors we see. And then what happens?
